i felt so lucky to be at the pro-choice rally in D.C. with this woman. and i felt renewed hope for our community-nation to be there amongst the hundreds of thousands of other people, all so passionate and ready.
we say we can’t change the world… but every day, the world is changing. so who is changing it? it can be us, if we want it.

andy and kristen made another human – and they gave him my name! i’m honored and flattered to laughter and tears; they plan on referring to to him by his middle (benjamin), so delightful confusion lies ahead for whenever i’m around and names are being called. joriel and i will simply have to pay a visit soon to andy’s growing hive.

at the aforemention wedding (dave), i ran into brendan yerian and his mate. he bears the honor of being Weird Blues’ Number One Fan, and was thrilled to hear that i had compiled a comprehensive CD box set of said band for andy a couple of years ago. by the end of the conversation, i had committed to making one for brendan as well. yikes! oh well; what’s one more labor of love?
i often wonder what would happen if i shared out my folder containing andy and i’s music, via emule or what have you. would someone download some of our songs, out of curiousity or by mistake? would we become some underground internet sensation, with music produced entirely before the launch of the world wide web? regardless, i would want to consult andy first, and secure a creative commons license of some sort for the music; maybe i should even make a website and such for the band.

the band and the friendship between andy and i are (in my mind) the same thing in many ways; while we haven’t recorded in awhile, the songs remain, and to me our music represents one of the best things about my time here on this planet. everything we’ve shared and dreamed and created and struggled thru has shaped me in so many ways; to have him as one of my best friends, and now as ‘uncle ben’, leaves me wordless.

my friend nancy and i hung out today. we had a meal at harrison street and wandered about VCU, conversing and sharing and browsing a yard sale, where i bought a little bag for joriel because it was nifty. later we examined some japanese graphitti, saw a puppy and witnessed a flat tire; all in all a delightful random afternoon (i also introduced her to my brother and the netherwood keep).
nancy is an artist whose talent and personality i greatly admire; she is of the belief that she is not hip, which gives her even more hip cred than she already intrinsically possesses. we met thru emily 11 years ago, and our conversations inevitably turn to her here and again; i didn’t see nancy for a long span after that, until 2000, when i opened the studio 257 gallery at the old SBAC. she had a gallery across the hall from me; this was the first time i had seen her work, which i think is most excellent. one of these days i hope to have the nuyen to commision a portrait of self from her; that’s ego for you.
i ran into her about twice a year from the middle of 2001 (when i closed my space) until a few months ago, usually in and about carytown. on our last bump i was determined, so we exchanged contact info and now have the opportunity for planned hangings, as it were.

afterward, i was one of the groomsmen in my old friend dave’s wedding, which was amazing and full of postive stress and delightful reunions. more on that later.

we spent all of this rainy afternoon in the bookstoretemple today – drinking soycaf, discussing philosophy and celebrity, sitting or wandering about the shelves; bliss. i am the luckiest geek in the world to be with this woman. sometimes just seeing her in front of her computer gets me hot.
this was after a delightful, somewhat impromptu ‘pagan fertility rite’ (that’s easter for you christos) breakfast with the netherwood crew, courtesy joriel, and me, some. puck and chronos were much appreciative of the wonder that is vegan french cinnamonswirltoast; sweet decadance!

it was cool having all of us eat at the roundtable together, if for no other reason than it had never happened before. it’s strange how you can live with people for over a year, and never get around to doing a dozen or more ordinary things together. but then, we pretty much keep to ourselves around here (when we’re actually around), which seems to suit everyone just fine.
